1D Mk3 review
There’s a review of the Canon EOS 1D Mk3 on Luminous Landscape.
The review makes interesting reading and confirms that Canon have not provided a single-button Mirror Lockup function.
The ISO noise has been hugely improved though - with Michael Reichmann indicating a 2 stop (!) advantage over his EOS 1Ds Mk2. It will be interesting to see what the noise levels are like on the upcoming 1Ds Mk3.
Since the pixel-pitch on the 1D would only result in a 13mp full-frame chip and the 1Ds is supposedly 22-24mp, it’s likely it would not be as impressive. However, the frame rate doesn’t need to be so high and they might be able to improve the noise handling because of it.
Even if it’s only 1 stop better than the Mk2 it’s going to be mightily impressive.
The battery and viewfinder/information are also improved on the 1D. It’s interesting to note Michael’s reaction to the newly redesigned menu system and interface on the Mk3. While he likes this, he indicates that he really disliked the old system. This is the first review I’ve read from a long term user that states such strong feeling against the system. It’s not perfect but it’s not that bad - or is it just that the new system is so much better?
