Photo sites

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

The National Geographic has published a list of photographic websites all recommended by professional photographers. There’s a lot of sites on there I visit regularly but also a whole lot of new ones. It’s definitely worth a look.

Update

Monday, December 25th, 2006

I’ve updated the blog to use Wordpress 2.0.5 today. Yep it’s Christmas, nope I’m not doing it for fun - one of my web hosts was insisting on the update. Still it’s done now and I can go back to Christmas. :D

Sorry to anyone who experienced a loss of service during the update - it should be back to normal now.

LFI - nearly a year later

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

I’ve been receiving the LFI magazine now for nearly a year and I have to say I’m really impressed with it. Not only is it very well printed and contains some lovely pictures by some extremely talented photographers but it also contains a lot of well researched, informative and interesting articles. There is a bias towards Leica equipment, which is understandable considering it’s affiliated with Leica but the vast majority of the articles are not…

Photoshop CS3 beta

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

1939 - 1943 American depression in colour

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

There’s a striking portfolio of images from the American depression on the Guardian site. Striking because they are all in colour instead of the more normal monochrome of other books or prints on the period.

It’s well worth a look and if you find yourself on Great Newport Street in London you might want to have a look at the exhibition too (8 Dec 2006 - 28 Jan 2007).

Hints about Photoshop CS3 ?

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

Think Secret have posted ‘details’ of the features in the new version of Photoshop. This is expected half way through next year and should be a major update. Hopefully, there will be improvements to Flash (like some bug fixes) and GoLive too, although I suspect GoLive will quietly die and be replaced with Dreamweaver CS3.

Update

Adobe have now released a Beta of Photoshop CS3 - see this posting.

Digital sales top out

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

Photoshop News have a posting about digital camera sales appearing to have topped-out at $18 billion. Still a massive market.

The report indicates that the push will mainly be towards hybrid camera / camcorder devices though. It seems to me that the mobile phones pretty much have this market covered and that most people are happy with these devices. Particularly since their ever increasing quality is closing the gap on ‘real’ cameras. The convenience of not…
