Adobe have updated Lightroom to version 1.1. This version includes an improved noise reduction and sharpening algorithm. There’s also support for Windows Vista (32bit) and a load of new cameras. The Mac download is here and the Windows version here.
More information on the update (including the press release) is on DPReview.com.
Starting up the new version shows a few changes, the buttons on the side-panels have changed and the filter panel now sports icons for…
The National Geographic has a Picture-of-the-day on their web site.
I’ve been looking at it for the last couple of weeks and have been largely impressed by the images on display. They are very varied and each image is accompanied by a short piece of text telling you more about the image, where it’s from, etc. Many are not new images but ones which were published or taken for but unpublished with the original articles.
The site’s well worth a daily visit.
Apple have posted an introduction video to the iPhone.
It lasts nearly 25 minutes and makes interesting viewing. There’s little in it which is completely new but it’s nice to see the phone ‘in use’.
As for European citizens, there’s still no news on who will be providing the network. In fact, I’ve read several postings saying that nobody is interested in doing so because Apple is being arrogant about the device. Talk about the pot calling…
Recently my Mac has been getting louder and louder.
Today it got to me - why are the fans running up so much when I’m only using about 25% of the total processing power on my Quad? I just can’t hear myself think!
Answer, because it’s full of dirt!

Today it’s had a spring clean and the difference is amazing.

It no longer sounds like a noisy PC and has returned to a state of Mac serenity.…
Apple have posted a list of the Apple Design Award winners (and runners up) for 2007.
There are some interesting applications on here and it’s definitely worth a look if you own a Mac.
Apple have revised their section on the iPhone - there are new bits on…
A review of this interesting new camera from Ricoh has been posted on the PhotographyBlog site. I’ve not spent a lot of time reading it since coming across the bit on the front page saying that the RAW mode has a shot-to-shot time of 6 (SIX!) seconds.
Since I shoot entirely in RAW mode and the camera appears to have no buffer in this mode, it’s pretty useless to me. Come on Ricoh, even my wife’s…
Kodak have developed a new filter pattern for higher sensitivity. There’s a piece on DPReview about it.
It’s an interesting idea and does definitely reduce the levels of noise in the test images. My only concern is that some of the colours look very fuzzy.
If you look at the background of the juggler image - the colour around the floor mounting for the background wooden panel (lower left of juggler) shows some really serious blur in…
I’ve only recently downloaded the latest version of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer but it’s a typical Microsoft experience.
First off, it doesn’t seem to solve much. It’s still massively worse than Opera, Firefox or Safari at standards compliance.
First off, it doesn’t solve every issue. It’s still not as good as Opera, Firefox or Safari at standards compliance.
Secondly (and I find this an amazing oversight) once you install IE7 it locks out all previous versions…
