MacNN are rumouring a new Leica system, the ‘S’ system. Featuring 9 new lenses and a body with a 37 mega-pixel sensor. It’s supposed to be somewhere is size between a 5D Mk2 and a 1Ds Mk3.
It’s interesting but just how much will Leica want for it and the lenses? They are aiming it at high-end DSLR users but Leica kit is normally pretty expensive.
Update
There a scan of the leaked Professional Photographer page here. The…

Olympus have announced they will display a prototype Micro 4:3 camera at Photokina and it’s one that could prove interesting. The reason is the given dimensions of the camera (the only real details announced today) of 119 x 64 x 31mm.
To put that into context the recently announced Canon G10 is 109 x 78 x 46 mm, which means the Micro 4:3 model from Olympus would be smaller without a lens attached. However, add to…

DPReview have a picture of the 40mm (equivalent) f1.7 lens prototype from Panasonic. This is going to fit any Micro 4:3 camera and could make the recently announced G1 a pocket camera - albeit with a fixed lens.
At f1.7 it may even be able to produce shots with limited depth-of-field, giving lovely out-of-focus backgrounds. However, the lens is not slotted for release until some time next year (PMA ‘09?) and I still wish that the…

DPReview has a gallery of sample images from a Beta version of the 5D Mark 2. The 100 ISO images have plenty of detail and very little noise in the shadows. There are also shots at 2000, 3200, 6400, 12800 and 25600 ISO.
Some seem to suffer from slight camera shake which is reducing the detail but the studio images show fine detail up to and including 3200 ISO. 6400 ISO is pretty good and 12800…

Kodak have announced the worlds first OLED photoframe. It’s interesting for two reasons…
- It’s display techonology means you get 800×600 in a 7.6″ frame (diagonal). This should be nice and sharp, plus the 30,000:1 contrast should produce good looking images.
- It’s WiFi connection lists the ability to upload images from your PC. Normally these things only allow you to connect to an on-line gallery (which are sometimes public). Personally, I don’t really want to be forced to…

Adobe have announced the latest version of their RAW conversion engine (v4.6), with updates their DNG converter and Camera RAW plug-in (ACR).
Please note, this is a “release candidate” (RC) which mean Adobe think it’s fully functional but it could still have bugs. A full release will come later and to download the RC you’ll need an Adobe Lab’s login (which were free when I applied for one some time ago). You don’t need a login…

The other interesting announcement from Canon is the replacement for the G9, the G10.
Again, there are many plus points to this model…
- A new wide-angle lens, now 28-140mm (35mm equivalent). This is a major improvement as the lack of a lens wider than 35mm on previous models has stopped some potential buyers for purchasing the G series, myself included. I just hope the quality of the lens is at least as good as the old model.…

Canon have today announced the long awaited 5D mark 2. The camera has a lot of expectation to match up to and there’s a lot of good stuff in there. There’s also some indifferent and disappointing issues if you live in the UK.
So first off, the good news…
- 1080p video, again via the LCD screen. It can also be interspersed with still shots and records for up to 12 minutes in any one capture. You can…

Leica have updated the M8, introducing the M8.2. This includes the sapphire glass cover for the LCD and the quieter shutter which were previously offered as an upgrade on the M8.
In addition to this the camera has a ’snap-shot’ mode (as “full-auto” as the M gets), a more hardwearing covering, the removal of the famous red-dot (replaced by a body matching colour), easier exposure compensation adjustment, an improved rangefinder and several other changes.
What hasn’t changed…

Leica have announced the D-LUX 4 and C-LUX 3, these are rebadged version of Panasonic’s LX-3 and FX-37.
They optimistically label the D-LUX 4 as the “Son of M8″. It does have a fast lens and RAW but that’s about as far as it goes really. It’s missing a large sensor, interchangeable lenses, a rangefinder focusing system, etc, etc, etc.
Still, the LX-3 / D-LUX 4 does look like an interesting digicam and it’s much cheaper than an M8.2.
